Physical Chemistry:
Yellowish crystals; (tech., beige solid). M.p. c. 85 ºC V.p. 0.093 mPa (20 °C) Solubility In water 430 mg/l (20 ºC). In acetone, chloroform >1000, ethyl acetate 590, ethanol 200 (all in g/kg, 20 ºC).
Toxicity:
Oral acute oral LD50 for rat is 2150mg/kg; Acute dermal LD50 for rabbit is 6810mg/kg; Acute inhalation LC50 for rat (4h) is 34.5 mg/l. It was not irritating to skin and eye. Metazachlor showed skin sensitising properties.
Application:
Metazachlor can be used selectively in transplanted cabbage varieties. The weed species predominant in vegetable crops are well controlled, e.g. Chenopodium album, Echinochloa crus-galli, Galinsoga parviflora, Lamium spp., Matricaria chamomilla, Polygonum spp., Senecio vulgaris, Stellaria media, Urtica urens.
